About the role
Mercy EMS is seeking a dedicated Paramedic to provide direct patient care, assess, evaluate, and stabilize patients before transporting them to appropriate destinations.
Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and provide basic and advanced medical rescue to patients.
- Access, stabilize, and evacuate patients using the Mercy System's protocols and policies.
- Transport patients to appropriate destinations following the Sisters of Mercy's philosophy and Standard of Care.
- Perform clerical and maintenance duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driving license.
- Hazmat awareness level training.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Qualifications
- At least 19 years of age.
- Paramedic (EMT-P) license for the state of practice.
- Correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles.
- Color acuity adequate for determining skin and blood color.
- Ability to hear and understand information provided by patients, family, or bystanders.
- Ability to hear breath sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressures.
- Ability to hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens.
- Ability to speak and enunciate clearly in stressful situations.
- Ability to differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting, and moving equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions.
- Ability to perform required medical skills and techniques.
- Unimpaired mobility: Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, and partner to carry equipment and patients.
Skills
Must have the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis. Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods during each shift. Must have the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
