About the role

Operation of a Mercy patient transport van to include pick-up and delivery of patients consistent with established guidelines of practice. Responsible for the safe and proper transfer of non-ambulatory patients to and from the wheelchair, safe transport of patients via the wheelchair, ambulation assistance to and from the transport van for ambulatory patients, and proper and safe transport of both non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients via the transport van.

Responsibilities

• Inspect the transport van daily and report any deficiencies to management promptly
• Keep the van clean at all times and sufficiently fueled
• Perform related duties as assigned
• Provide exceptional customer service to all in keeping with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards
• Use transfer and lift techniques and utilize a gait belt for ambulatory patients
• Disconnect wall oxygen and transfer to portable oxygen with accurate liter setting for transport
• Operate the wheelchair lift and securing system
• Communicate clearly by use of UHF radio with dispatch
• Ensure vehicle is kept clean and serviced appropriately
• Report all defects to manager

Requirements

• Current and valid Class E or equivalent driver’s license (position contingent upon maintaining this license)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Competency with transfer and lift techniques
• Good customer service skills
