About the role

The Ad Astra Fellow - Lecturer/Assistant Professor in AI and Digital Cultural Heritage is sought to provide research leadership within the UCD School of Information and Communications, contributing to the growth of the school and the university.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in AI and Digital Cultural Heritage that supports high-quality teaching in the field.
  • Lead innovations in both research and teaching, expanding and deepening partnerships with sectoral stakeholders nationally and internationally.
  • Seek national and international research funding opportunities to grow capacity and consolidate interdisciplinary interests across the college and university.
  • Pursue growth in taught graduate enrolment on the MLIS programme and engage with funding opportunities to develop AI and GLAM research.
  • Design a new AI-focused interdisciplinary module for the MSc in Human-Computer Interaction, MSc in Communication and Media, and MLIS programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of new undergraduate modules for the BSc in Social Science (ICS) and BA in Creative and Cultural Institutions, enhancing ICS UG offerings and informing discussions on potential AI-related majors.
  • Support the development of micro credentials in AI and digital GLAM studies, meeting the demand for skills development from professionals in the Irish cultural heritage sector.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have:

  • A strong background in AI and Digital Cultural Heritage.
  • Experience in research and scholarship, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and academic administration.
  • Ability to lead innovations in both research and teaching.
  • Strong commitment to research-led education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant field and have a proven track record of research and teaching in AI and Digital Cultural Heritage.
