About the role

The Acute Care RN provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. This position requires evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts an initial assessment to gather data and completes admission assessments within 24 hours.
  • Develops and implements a plan of care based on assessment data, prioritizing patient needs and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinates care among LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members, delegating tasks as needed.
  • Communicates with physicians, patients, and families, ensuring clear understanding of treatment plans and discharge instructions.
  • Ensures medication safety and administers medications according to policy, using the "5 Rights" of medication administration.
  • Participates in developing and implementing discharge plans, focusing on patient education and service coordination.
  • Evaluates patient progress regularly and modifies the care plan as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring, interpreting rhythms and responding to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborates with other departments and participates in unit-based committees and education initiatives.
  • Provides care that is appropriate to the age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current Iowa RN license, Illinois (IL) license if working in IL, required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, depending on unit needs.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • High language, intermediate to high math, and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Qualifications

  • Lift/carry 76-100% of the time, average 50-100 lbs.
  • Stand/walk about 76-100% of the time.

Benefits

Eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 and relocation assistance.

Pay

$10,000 for 0-1 years of experience, $15,000 for 1-3 years of experience, and $20,000 for 3+ years of experience.

Schedule

Part-time 24-hour shifts, night shift (7PM-7AM).
