About the Role

This part-time contractual position assists in implementing prescribed activity therapy and therapeutic recreation programs for participants enrolled in the Medical Adult Day Care (MADC) program. The role provides structured therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and wellness activities designed to promote participant independence, cognitive stimulation, physical functioning, emotional well-being, and social engagement. Additionally, the position assists with participant observations, documentation, and activity-related assessments under the supervision of the MADC Director and other healthcare professionals to support the Kent County Health Department's mission of delivering quality community-based services to adults with medical, physical, cognitive, and behavioral health needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing prescribed activity therapy and therapeutic recreation programs.
• Provide structured therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and wellness activities.
• Support participant independence, cognitive stimulation, physical functioning, emotional well-being, and social engagement.
• Assist with participant observations, documentation, and activity-related assessments.

Requirements

• Two years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional, including assisting in patient/client assessments for individuals with behavioral health diagnoses, aging-related conditions, physical illnesses, physical disabilities, or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education, or behavioral sciences, may substitute for the required experience.
• U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in Therapeutic Recreation may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland (required if assigned duties involving automobile operation).
• Class “C” motor vehicle operator’s license may be required for some positions.
• Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) may be required.
• Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety may be required for positions at facilities with a swimming pool.
• Ability to be reached by telephone for call-in purposes.
