ACTIVITY THERAPY ASSOCIATE I Part-Time Contractual
Main Purpose of Job:
The main purpose of this part-time contractual position is to assist implementing prescribed activity therapy and therapeutic recreation programs for participants enrolled in the Medical Adult Day Care (MADC) program. This position provides structured therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and wellness activities designed to promote participant independence, cognitive stimulation, physical functioning, emotional well-being, and social engagement. This position also assists with participant observations, documentation, and activity-related assessments under the supervision of the MADC Director and other healthcare professionals to support the Kent County Health Department's mission of providing quality community-based services to adults with medical, physical, cognitive, and behavioral health needs.
About the Role
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. Employees in some positions in this classification may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class “C” motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training. Employees in this classification at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to appointment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
- Assist in patient/client assessments for patients/clients that have behavioral health diagnoses, are aged, physically ill, have physical disabilities, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Provide structured therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and wellness activities designed to promote participant independence, cognitive stimulation, physical functioning, emotional well-being, and social engagement.
- Assist with participant observations, documentation, and activity-related assessments under the supervision of the MADC Director and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
- Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional to include assisting in patient/client assessments for patients/clients that have behavioral health diagnoses, are aged, physically ill, have physical disabilities, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Qualifications
- Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Therapeutic Recreation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
