Activity Therapist - Per Diem 1st Shift

About the role

The Activity Therapist works as part of an in-patient multidisciplinary team who encourages individuals with mental illness, special needs and other circumstances to acquire new skills and to get involved in health-promoting leisure activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and gardening as a way to improve mental and physical wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and encourage patients to develop leisure activities based on their individualized treatment needs.
• Lead, organize, and schedule structured therapeutic activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in art therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy or related field is required.
• Two (2) years previous experience in providing structured therapeutic activities for mental health patients is preferred.
• BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
• Demonstrates ability to assess, plan for care and provide treatment for assigned patient/family groups.
• Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served.
• Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
