About the role
The Arc of Union County Inc. is seeking an Activity Instructor to lead community activities and events for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Adult Day Services programming.
Responsibilities
- Develop curricula on various subject areas of interest for review and approval by department head.
- Create an annual Activity Calendar/Schedule.
- Develop and facilitate recreational groups and programs that meet the social, leisure, educational, emotional, self-esteem, psychological, cognitive, and physical needs of the service recipients.
- Plan and implement activities that support participants in building problem-solving skills, self-help, social skills, adaptive skills, daily living skills, and leisure skills.
- Design activities and environments to foster skill acquisition, positive social behavior, interpersonal competence, greater independence, and personal choice.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Windows software and data entry software like Therap.
- Experience completing Shift and Individual Served ISP data entry on a web-based electronic platform.
- A bachelor's degree required, with at least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
- At least 3 years of experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities.
- At least 3 years of experience and creativity in planning community outings and activities.
Qualifications
- Ability to maintain a stationary position for extended periods, move/traverse, kneel, bend, reach, twist, carry up to 35 pounds, squat, and operate manual devices for transportation.
- Agility with wrist and finger dexterity for accessing, keying, and sorting electronic information, viewing computer and electronic devices, and other physical duties as directed.
- Ability to apply Agency Training Crisis Management Verbal and Physical Techniques during a crisis, consistent with criteria and agency policies.
Skills
- Proficiency in Windows software and data entry software.
- Experience with web-based electronic platforms for data entry.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Creativity in planning community activities.
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve.
