Activities Director

Dexter Health Care is a 53-bed full-service Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing Facility. About the role

A critical part of our residents' care, the Activities Director provides opportunities for entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression, fulfilling basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs. The Director will work with team members to plan, organize, and direct a program of activities available to all residents of the facility. Additionally, the role involves assisting physically, emotionally, and cognitively impaired individuals and their families in exploring appropriate hobbies and leisure activities. As part of the facility leadership team, the Director reports to the facility Administrator.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct a program of activities for all residents.
• Work with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities to explore and engage in hobbies and leisure activities.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure activities meet residents' psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
• Organize and develop a volunteer program.
• Document and implement detailed activity programs.

Requirements

• Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities.
• Practical knowledge of how an Activity Department functions in a nursing facility.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
• Experience working with volunteers and ability to organize and develop a volunteer program.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and program implementation skills.
• Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
• Excellent creative and communication skills.

Qualifications

Meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, music therapist, or art therapist.
• Certified activity coordinator by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
• Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, in which one year was full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting.
• Prior completion of a state-approved training course, or willingness to complete a state-approved training course within six months of employment.
