Activities Assistant
About the role
The Activities Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that a wide range of activities are available to meet the diverse needs of residents in a long-term care facility. This position focuses on both direct care and administrative tasks to support the overall well-being of the residents.
Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day activity functions to provide programming that meets the residents' interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
Encourage and assist residents to participate in hobbies and crafts.
Visit and assist bed-bound residents with activities such as writing/reading letters, providing materials for hobbies, and transporting them to/from dining areas.
Interact with residents to ensure quality care and positive resident/staff relations.
Communicate with residents or family members to gather activity information and provide reading materials in Braille, tapes, and recordings as needed.
Coordinate scheduled parties, movies, games/activities appropriate for residents in various levels of care.
Develop and oversee written plans of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident and ensure all activity progress notes are charted accurately.
Maintain and review all charts, notes, and documentation for compliance with rules, regulations, and standards.
Communicate needs for supplies/equipment as needed and attend all-employee and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
One year activities experience is preferred, and two years in a long-term care, hospital, or related healthcare setting is preferred.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Other Requirements
Must be able to lift, transfer, push or pull residents/patients and/or equipment/supplies up to 50 pounds.
Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Exposure to various disease processes and conditions, including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Work in a risk category for exposure to bloodborne diseases (II).
