Purpose
The ACTIVITIES ASSISTANT supports the overall department. The assistant loads, transports, and unloads residents safely for personal errands, medical appointments and activity outings in accordance with all laws, regulations and Century Park standards. Additionally, the assistant supports the department with implementing quality activities for residents as requested. Reports to the Lifestyles Services Director.
Working Conditions
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs
- Works in vehicle, transporting residents, as well as in department and throughout community
- May be assigned to other appropriate positions as necessary
- Subject to frequent interruptions
- Involved with residents, associates, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
- Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
- Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporary as necessary
- Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday
- Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses
Education and Experience
- Must be high school graduate or equivalent
- A valid commercial drivers’ license (CDL) with P endorsement in current state with satisfactory driving record is preferred
- Prior experience with seniors preferred
Specific Requirements
- Must complete pre-inspections before use of vehicle
- Must be able to transport residents to and from appointments and activities and assist the Director with activities
- Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Must demonstrate excellent customer service and hospitality
- Must demonstrate trustworthiness and dependability
- Must perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: transportation responsibilities, resident rights, and safety and sanitation
- Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Understands and follows company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures
- Must be able to receive and resolve complaints graciously
- Always be in proper attire and well-groomed
- Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Century Parks’ Code of Ethics and completes all required compliance training
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Delivers transportation services in a pleasant manner for the residents’ enjoyment
- Transports residents safely and timely to planned community activities and personal appointments
- Assists residents with boarding and de-boarding vehicle – especially those with special needs
- Demonstrates safe driving techniques to protect our residents
- Tracks mileage in vehicle log
- Assists Lifestyle Services Director in implementing quality activity programs including weekends and evenings
- Assists residents directly in Lifestyle Services
- Assists with planning monthly Lifestyle Services calendar
- Communicates monthly calendar of Lifestyle Services to residents and staff
- Welcomes and assists new residents with adjustment to community
- Encourages Lifestyle Services geared toward residents’ abilities and interests – involves residents and families
- Encourages social involvement through outings and events: shopping, sightseeing, scenic, parks, dining out, sports events, drama/theater, etc.
- Encourages intellectual and educational development thorough literature, lectures, movies and cultural events
- Encourages entertainment and personal development through hobbies, music and crafts
- Encourages wellness and healthy lifestyle through exercise programs
- Encourages spiritual fulfillment through religious-based activities
- Observes resident’s attendance, mood, behavior, involvement and notifies Lifestyle Services Director of concerns
- Maintains receipts for vehicle expenses
- Writes-up charge slips for billable transportation provided to residents
- Responds proactively to prevent resident injuries during transporting
- Completes routine maintenance for safe operation of vehicle (i.e., fluid levels, oil changes, checking tires)
- Represents the community in professional manner during outings and/or appointments
- Works cooperatively with other departments (i.e., Sales, Lifestyle Services) to plan and execute special events
- Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) standards as required for drivers of vehicles over 10,001 lbs and transporting residents including CDL license
Essential Functions
- Must be able to safely load, transport and unload residents
- Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards residents
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Practice regular and predictable attendance including punctuality for shifts
- Be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team
- Follow company policies including harassment, code of ethics, complaint procedures, safety, sanitation, confidentiality, dress code, open door, and resident rights
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Be able to assist in the evacuation of residents and support residents in times of crisis (i.e. natural disasters, etc.)
- Be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
- Be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team
- Be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
- Be able to lift 35 lbs floor to waist, lift 35 lbs waist to shoulder, lift and carry 35 lbs, and push/pull 35 lbs
