About the role
The Activities Assistant supports the Activities Department in coordinating and running daily programs for residents and assists in planning and implementing a diverse calendar of events.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance and support to the Activities Department in running daily activities for the residents.
- Helps plan and implement a diverse calendar of activity events, ranging from social events, exercise, theme parties, mental games, reminiscence and more.
- Runs two to three programs per day.
- Escorts residents to and from programs, via walking with them or pushing their wheelchair.
- Covers the reception desk for the receptionist’s lunch break.

Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalency with strong interest and/or ability in art, music, or helping the elderly required.
- An associate's degree or college credits in a related field preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
- Experience in or willingness to be trained in dementia and how to care for residents with dementia.
- Dementia Capable Care Specialist Certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain AAC certification according to NCCAP standards within 3 years of hire date if a fulltime employee and within 5 years if a part-time employee (at least 18.75 hours).
- Is adaptable to change and open to a variety of programming for all levels of individual capabilities.
- Ability to lead large and small group programs as well as one to one interventions.
- Must be willing to expand knowledge and interpret the needs of the aging and life span education by attending continuing education in-services.
- Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.
