About the role
We are looking for a positive, compassionate Activities Assistant to execute planned programs from the activity calendar. Candidates should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate large and small group activities designed to stimulate older adults with dementia.
- Provide dynamic and engaging presentations and hands-on activities that support client interest and abilities.
- Provide behavioral and emotional support and supervision for residents through companionship, conversation, distraction, and redirection.
- Encourage residents to participate in individual, small, and large group activities; provide appropriate cuing and support based on the residents functional ability.
- Engage the person in mentally stimulating activities, such as puzzles or reminiscing. Communicate effectively and patiently, especially as dementia progresses.
- Assist the Activity Director in the development, organization, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive therapeutic recreation services and programs that meet the needs and interests of each resident.
- Complete required documentation, assist with planning and leadership of special events, and maintain activity department supplies and equipment.
Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to relate professionally and positively to our residents and families and to work cooperatively with others.
- A wholehearted individual whose interests lie with our residents, and meeting the recreation program and service needs.
- Long-Term Care, Memory Care, Dementia experience preferred.
- Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check and physical / drug screen.
