About the role

The Resident Activity Assistant at MediLodge of Yale is a key member of the interdisciplinary team responsible for enhancing the quality of life for residents through organized and participatory activities.

Responsibilities

  • Affords one-to-one intervention, small group facilitation, and large group presentations as part of the resident activity programming.
  • Documents individual participation and the value of approaches in the medical record.
  • Aids the resident activity director as needed.
  • Utilizes the environment to ensure both comfort and stimulation for the resident population.
  • Fosters a sense of community within the center environment.
  • Leads and participates in individual and group activities.
  • Utilizes a variety of models, such as pet therapy, music therapy, and art therapy, to achieve individualized programming.
  • Aids with decorating the facility and preparing for special events and seasonal parties.
  • Develops and posts a monthly calendar as a planning resource for residents and families.
  • Participates in recreational programs for residents confined to their rooms.
  • Promotes volunteer efforts in the community.
  • Maintains records of activities and attendance.
  • Stores activity equipment and supplies and cleans the area after the activity.
  • Utilizes the biopsychosocial model to support resident well-being.
  • Provides or arranges for comfort/support to residents and families when needed.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in long-term care, is beneficial. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working with residents/families facing end of life issues.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the biopsychosocial model.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate activities.
  • Experience with various therapeutic models (e.g., pet therapy, music therapy).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Confidentiality and empathy.
