About the Role
Perform a variety of human resources activities within an assigned department including recruitment, payroll, grievance procedures, labor relations, classification/compensation, testing, and/or employment. Provide information and assistance to managers, employees, and the general public regarding human resources activities, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to managers, employees, and the general public in resolving policy-related, process-related, or procedural problems and inquiries regarding human resources functions and programs.
- Gather and respond to various requests, inquiries, and information from employees and managers; process reports and maintain related human resources data in computer software systems.
- Maintain and monitor human resources actions such as transfers, new hires, terminations, approved leaves, and salary changes; ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures; document processes for tracking.
- Arrange meetings with supervisors and managers to discuss personnel activities; communicate scheduling within divisions; provide correspondence to City departments and outside organizations; follow up to ensure resolution of issues.
- Maintain confidential personnel records according to established rules and regulations.
- Assist in recruitment efforts for internal and external applicants, including creating advertisements, screening applicants, assisting in interviews, and finalizing hires.
- Provide support in investigating and processing personnel grievances; gather documentation and arrange grievance hearings as needed.
- Participate in career fairs and make presentations to schools and private sector agencies about employment opportunities.
- Review departmental forms and documents for compliance with city rules and regulations, completeness, and accuracy.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay updated on new trends and innovations in human resources.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, public administration, or business administration.
- Three years of human resources experience in at least two of the following areas: staffing/recruiting, onboarding, employee/labor relations, training, benefits administration, or processing employment transactions.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six months from the date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental: Office environment with exposure to computer screens.
Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
