About the role

Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and initiate the acquisition of large-scale, complex land positions globally capable of supporting multi-facility, gigawatt-level data center campuses.
  • Lead highly nuanced negotiations for multi-party land assemblies, brownfield redevelopments, complex zoning/entitlement frameworks, and creative joint ventures or option agreements.
  • Partner closely with Energy, Fiber, and Government Affairs teams to ensure sourced land can rapidly scale to meet massive power and cooling utility requirements.
  • Establish and scale negotiation playbooks, frameworks, and commercial toolkits to standardize land acquisition processes, guiding peer-review pipelines to ensure financial underwriting and consistency with global risk tolerance.
  • Serve as the structural escalation point and advisor for junior negotiators across North America and LATAM, helping unblock local negotiations and refine regional commercial strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of experience leading negotiations or business development.
  • 8 years of experience in utility-scale land acquisition, infrastructure site selection, or large-scale commercial real estate development (preferred).
  • Experience working on or supporting real estate transactions across multiple global regions (AMER, EMEA, APAC) (preferred).
  • Direct experience sourcing single sites or clusters exceeding 500MW to 1GW+ of potential capacity (preferred).
  • Deep understanding of data center critical infrastructure requirements (substations, fiber, zoning, due diligence, grid interconnection) (preferred).
  • Exceptional mentor capable of coaching and upskilling remote, junior negotiators without requiring direct-line reporting authority (preferred).
  • Proven history of closing goals real estate transactions, ideally involving industrial megasites, master-planned developments, or large renewable energy/data center campuses (preferred).
