The ACLU of New Hampshire is seeking applicants for the temporary 12-month part-time position of Upper Valley Organizing Fellow. The mission of this role is to unlock the full potential of activists, volunteers, community members, and the ACLU-NH as partners in creating a just and equitable Granite State and Upper Valley region. The fellow will report to the North Country Regional Campaign Manager and work collaboratively to achieve organizational goals through grassroots, community-based organizing and creative strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Campaign Design and Execution
    • Work closely with cross-departmental colleagues to develop goals, strategies, and plans to improve policies affecting civil liberties in the Upper Valley region.
    • Exert influence at the local and state levels through relationships with allied organizations, grassroots groups, and elected officials, including in adversarial contexts.
  • Activist Engagement and Education
    • Engage in base-building tactics such as canvassing, tabling, phone/text banking, digital organizing, coalition participation, stakeholder meetings, town halls, and rallies.
    • Develop and lead grassroots public education efforts, including designing and conducting trainings, hosting community meetings, and creating toolkits and educational materials.
    • Conduct strategic rapid response actions as new issues emerge, with flexibility to work outside normal business hours or reprioritize projects.
  • Volunteer and Leader Development
    • Recruit and sustain relationships with volunteers, meeting them where they are in their activism to develop their skills and commitment to justice.
    • Cultivate trust and reciprocity by elevating volunteers’ strengths and aligning their talents with the ACLU-NH’s mission.
    • Nurture relationships with individuals impacted by civil liberties issues, supporting them to contribute through storytelling, testifying, co-authoring materials, and other advocacy efforts.
  • Collaboration for Movement Building
    • Build and sustain relationships with coalition partners and community stakeholders to advance civil liberties issues.
    • Move at the speed of trust with partners, particularly those working with directly impacted communities.
    • Participate in developing local organizing plans that align with the ACLU-NH’s mission and goals.
    • Collaborate with organizations sharing similar goals and jurisdictions, and work across departments in an integrated advocacy approach.
    • Manage people, teams, or projects internally as needed.

Requirements

  • Based in the Upper Valley region or in community with the region.
  • Ability to operate a computer, laptop, and other personal electronic devices.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or have access to adequate transportation for travel throughout the Upper Valley and to Concord.
  • Reside in the Upper Valley for the duration of the position.

Pay

This part-time position offers an hourly wage of $32 for 20 hours per week.

Schedule

This is a temporary 12-month position. The fellow will be based in the Upper Valley region but may occasionally work from the Concord office.
