Accounts Receivable Specialist - Intermodal Logistics

About the role

This is an opportunity to join an established intermodal transportation and logistics company in Charleston, SC as an Accounts Receivable Specialist. This role reports directly to the Accounts Receivable Supervisor and works closely with sales, customer service, and collections staff to manage customer accounts and keep receivables current.

Responsibilities

• Posts customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions, and records revenue by verifying and entering deposit transactions.
• Generates manual invoices for ancillary revenue streams such as brokered labor and intercompany sales.
• Prioritizes and runs customer account statements to support the collections process.
• Reconciles customer accounts, totals unpaid invoices, and maintains organized records of customer balances.
• Investigates discrepancies by gathering information from sales, customer service, and customers directly, and resolves authorized deductions by entering adjusting entries into the accounting system.
• Supports collections by reviewing payment plans and payment history, and prepares receivables summaries, reconciliations, and ad hoc reports for the accounting team as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, or a related accounting role.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Accounting degree (in progress or completed) OR a minimum of 3 years of AR, AP, or accounting experience.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with Sage, IFS, or QuickBooks Online, prior experience in intermodal, transportation, or logistics accounting, and experience working through an ERP system transition or implementation.
