About the role

The Accounts Receivable Specialist supports the financial operations of the organization by managing customer accounts, recording and reconciling transactions, and assisting with month-end close activities. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of accounts receivable processes and contributes to the company’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Post customer remittances and record daily cash transactions accurately.
  • Monitor and investigate payment discrepancies, customer deductions, and promotional spending.
  • Follow up on past-due accounts to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
  • Collaborate with Customer Services and Sales teams to resolve customer issues and support deduction investigations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and credit card statements.
  • Process employee expense reimbursements and assist with vendor payments (check, ACH, and wire transfer) as backup for Accounts Payable.
  • Prepare and post month-end transactions and support the Accounting Manager with investigating cash and A/R discrepancies during the close process.
  • Maintain organized files for all accounting related functions and provide timely feedback for research between accounting and customer service teams.
  • Support ongoing fixed asset tracking and assist with property tax reporting.
  • Provide reception coverage as needed and assist with general office support tasks.
  • Contribute to special projects and other accounting related duties as assigned.
  • Support SQF compliance, where relevant.
  • Drive all of BFF’s Environment Management Systems (EMS) in an impactful manner, including monitoring/reducing operationally related negative effects on the environment and pollution prevention.
  • Uphold animal welfare standards and report any incidents of abuse, neglect, or breach of biosecurity.
  • Support food safety initiatives and contribute to a culture of food safety excellence.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or related field plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Highly proficient computer skills including accounting software programs and Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills – phone, email, and in person.
  • Professional appearance and attitude with a strong customer service focus.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to adapt to office work environments which could include cold and heat.
  • Exposure to high noise levels.
  • Data entry while seated for greater than one hour.
  • Ability to work in an agricultural environment, including indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas, each varying in temperature, odor, and other environment-specific atmospheres.
  • Non-smoking work environment: no smoking allowed in the workplace, break areas, on company property, or in company-provided vehicles.
