Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Captures and follows up on unpaid claims.
  • Makes follow-up and reimbursement appeals for unpaid and improperly paid claims.
  • Identifies, investigates, and ensures timely processing of billing errors and corrections related to claims.
  • Collaborates with internal and external resources to identify and resolve issues.
  • Reviews and works daily correspondence, including appeals of denied claims.
  • Performs audits on accounts to review for accuracy and updates accounts with relevant information.
  • Contact patients, referring providers, or hospitals to obtain better insurance information, authorizations, or updated patient demographics.
  • Ensures correct statement groups, financial classes, and payer codes are used accurately.
  • Documents all follow-up actions on the account to maintain an accurate record of collection efforts.
  • Assists in completing the workload of AR Representatives 2 to support productivity and outcome measures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes and stays updated on healthcare practices and laws related to claims collections.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by management.

Position Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
  • An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college is preferred, but not required.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of health care claims reimbursement and denial resolution experience is required.
  • Knowledge of major commercial payers such as Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, UHC, and Medicare/Medicaid payer guidelines is essential.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel, are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette, are necessary.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations is crucial.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills are important.
