Position Summary

Coushatta Forest Products is seeking a detailed-oriented Accounts Payable (AP) clerk.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform complex matching between purchase orders, receiving documents (such as mill scale tickets or tally sheets), and vendor invoices to ensure the mill only pays for materials and services received
  • Monitor actual expenditures against authorized capital budgets, identifying variances, and providing forecasts
  • Schedule and execute weekly check runs or electronic transfers (ACH/Wire) while maximizing early payment discounts
  • Reconcile monthly vendor statements and internal reports to identify and resolve discrepancies or overcharges
  • Assign expenses to specific mill departments or cost centers (e.g., kiln drying, planer mill, logging operations) to support accurate budgeting and financial reporting
  • Maintain updated W-9 records and assist in the preparation of annual 1099 tax forms
  • Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems, scan documents, and assist with month-end closing procedures
  • Create weekly AP reports showing invoices to be paid
  • Versatile in verbally verifying new vendors' banking information or banking changes
  • Prepare and create requested financial information for the Plant Manager
  • Process invoices through the Continia system
  • Receive, sort, and process mail, including special deliveries and registered/certified packages through USPS, UPS, or FEDEX
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Certifications/Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or finance required
  • 3-5 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to calculate discounts, sales tax, and perform complex reconciliations accurately
  • Knowledge of enterprise-level financial record-keeping software systems, spreadsheets, and email applications

Computer Skills

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software; Word Processing software; and PowerPoint

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise levels are moderate to high depending on the area of the mill.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • Lifting and physical activity is required for this position, must be able to move boards and wood pieces.
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
