About the role

Our client, a well-established professional services organization in the Boston area, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and stabilize its Accounts Payable function. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on AP leader with a strong background in the legal industry who enjoys improving processes, managing teams, and ensuring efficient day-to-day AP operations. The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience within a large law firm or professional services environment and have expertise in legal accounting systems, vendor management, and driving operational efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day Accounts Payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and disbursements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and resolve payment or account discrepancies.
  • Oversee invoice processing, check runs, electronic payments, and AP reconciliations.
  • Support month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and reporting.
  • Supervise and mentor the Accounts Payable team while establishing best practices and ensuring high-quality service.
  • Evaluate and improve AP processes, documenting workflows and implementing operational efficiencies.
  • Help stabilize AP operations within a manual environment while identifying opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, and other business departments to ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
  • Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Previous experience as an Accounts Payable Manager or Senior AP Lead within a large organization.
  • Strong background managing high-volume AP operations and vendor relationships.
  • Experience leading teams and driving process improvements.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Large law firm accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within a professional services organization.
  • Hands-on experience with Aderant, Elite/3E, or other legal accounting platforms.
  • Experience working within large, complex finance organizations.
  • Proven ability to document workflows, improve processes, and enhance operational efficiency.

Pay

Determining compensation for this role depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. The salary range for this role in geographies that require salary range disclosure is $85,000 - $110,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
