Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Finance & Administration, Davidson County (hybrid in-office/remote).
Overview
Under general supervision, this role involves preparing and maintaining sub-professional accounting records, financial statements, and reports of moderate to considerable complexity.
Responsibilities
- Calculate overall invoice totals, account adjustments, and purchases/account deductions to generate reports, spreadsheets, and adjustment forms.
- Apply cash and checks received to appropriate accounts, calculate and disburse funds, and code adjustment sheets/requisitions.
- Audit travel expenses, requisitions, accounts receivable, and accounts payable vouchers.
- Audit state credit card purchases and commissary counts.
- Allocate expenses internally to appropriate accounting strings to ensure proper funding.
- Process paycheck modifications.
- Generate requisitions, purchase orders, receipts, and vouchers for the assigned work unit.
- Research outstanding checks, overpayments, and underpayments; perform cancel and/or re-issue as necessary.
- Manage complaints from internal and external customers by providing clear, accurate information and resolution options.
- Monitor trust funds for individuals in state custody, internal and external vendor contracts, employee timesheet entries, tracking systems, and daily reports.
- Train co-workers on accounting-based databases, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and two years of full-time clerical accounting or auditing experience.
- Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time clerical accounting or auditing experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Substitution of Education for Experience: Accounting coursework from an accredited college or technical institute may substitute for the required experience under the following conditions:
- 4.5 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 1-year substitution
- 9 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 2-year substitution
- 12 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 2.5-year substitution
- 15 quarter hours in accounting and bookkeeping = 3-year substitution
