Key Responsibilities

  • Agency-Billed Accounting Process and maintain agency-billed client accounts.
  • Apply client payments and ensure accurate posting within the agency management system.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Carrier Payables Review and reconcile carrier statements.
  • Prepare and process carrier payments in accordance with due dates.
  • Investigate and resolve premium, commission, and billing discrepancies with carriers.
  • Maintain accurate payable records and supporting documentation.
  • Account Reconciliations Perform monthly reconciliations of: Carrier payables Bank accounts
  • Research and resolve reconciling items timely.
  • Aid in month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Premium Tax & Regulatory Reporting Prepare and file surplus lines taxes and reports.
  • Prepare and remit municipal premium taxes and fees.
  • Maintain filing calendars and monitor reporting deadlines.
  • Financial Administration Assist with journal entries and account analysis.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and accounting projects.

Desired Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or insurance accounting experience preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies: Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

About the Role

The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate recording of insurance transactions, timely payment of carrier balances, compliance with surplus lines and municipal tax requirements, and maintenance of agency accounting records.
