About the Role
Our client is a respected public-sector organization committed to serving the local community through accessible and impactful programs and services. They are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join their Finance team and support a variety of accounting functions in a mission-driven, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Process semi-monthly payroll, including reviewing timesheets, resolving discrepancies, obtaining approvals, and coordinating payroll submission.
- Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions from employees and external partners.
- Process accounts payable invoices, verify coding and approvals, maintain vendor information, and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Prepare invoices, track reimbursements, and reconcile receivable activity.
- Record general ledger journal entries, including cash receipts, payroll transactions, and manual payments.
- Perform account reconciliations, including reviewing bank deposits and cash receipts.
- Prepare financial and payroll reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Prepare year-end tax documents, including W-2s and 1099s.
- Assist with financial reporting, budget preparation, audits, and other accounting projects as needed.
- Provide accounting support and guidance to internal departments regarding finance policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years of related accounting experience required; 5+ years preferred.
- Experience with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, email, and accounting software.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work with employees, vendors, and external partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling financial information.
Preferred Skills
- Experience preparing financial reports and reconciliations.
- Experience supporting audits, budgeting, or compliance reporting.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data from multiple sources.
Pay
$65,000 - $75,000
