Accounting Services - Federal Work Study Student Assistant
This position is part of the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program. Program funding is limited; applying does not guarantee an award.
Eligibility Requirements
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
- Enrolled in at least half-time (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) per semester
- Federal need of at least $2,000
- Submit all requested financial aid documentation from your To-Do-List by the due date
- Have an official award notification from the Financial Aid Office
- U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or permanent resident
Students not awarded FWS may be added to the FWS Waiting List by emailing workstudy@csusb.edu.
About the Role
The Accounting Director’s Office is seeking a motivated accounting major to join as a work-study student assistant and gain hands-on experience in a professional accounting environment. This role offers valuable exposure to core functions such as assisting with journal entries and helping to reconcile month-end financial statements. You'll work closely with experienced staff, gaining insight into day-to-day accounting operations. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a willingness to learn are key to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Help maintain journal entries and month-end reconciliations
- Assist in daily tasks, answer phones, emails, distribute correspondence
- Route Trust Fund Fact Sheets for signatures and maintain records
- Log and track checks that come in the mail
- Organize and help maintain digital filing system and files in storage
- Assist with purchase orders, Printing Services requests, IT requests, and Facilities requests
- Support staff with special projects and administrative tasks
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work, follow oral instructions, and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students
- Effective communication with all levels
- Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
- Admission or registration as a CSU student
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
- Enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Social Security Card required for payroll
Pay
Anticipated hiring range: $16.90 per hour. Compensation will consider internal equity and experience.
Schedule
- Academic year hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
- Summer hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm)
This is a part-time, temporary, seasonal, on-campus-only position. Student employees are not eligible to telecommute.
