About the role
The Payroll Lead job class provides lead work direction of the payroll department and serves as a subject matter expert for payroll services for the Minneapolis Veterans Home campus.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily payroll operations to ensure all employee payments, deductions, and business expense reimbursements are processed with precision and consistency.
- Provide support to the Assistant Finance Director and Finance Director in strategic planning, process improvement, and system enhancements to make payroll services more efficient and responsive to evolving needs.
- Perform finance department tasks such as audit, review and present findings of finance reports; review and oversee process; and audit of all payroll related transactions, employee expense documents, departmental scheduling and timekeeping software (EST) review and editing; and other payroll associated tasks for the Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis campus.
- Serve as a super user for EST software and a liaison between campus payroll staff and central office.
Requirements
- One (1) year of entry level accounting experience OR two (2) years of experience providing support for accounting-related functions.
- An associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related program may substitute for 6 months of experience; a bachelor's degree in the above may substitute for 1 year of experience; and a master’s degree in the above may substitute for 18 months of experience.
- Knowledge of SEMA4 or comparable payroll software and collective bargaining agreements sufficient to process payroll transactions and business expenses.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to compute and reconcile numerical data.
- Budget terminology and principles sufficient to assist in preparing a budget.
- Ability to interpret and analyze fiscal reports.
- Skills in computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel, Power Point, Word; Share Point and Teams.
- Ability to be highly organized and determine priorities, while balancing a variety of duties simultaneously.
