Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensures that accounting functions and duties are accurately and promptly completed in accordance with established Credit Union procedures and applicable policies.
  • Prepares journal entries and balances work in more complex accounting areas, such as investment income accruals, third-party non-interest income recognition, FAS 91 calculations and entries, interest accruals and internal share accounts.
  • Evaluates department processes and recommends solutions to streamline tasks for optimal efficiency.
  • Oversees the preparation of regulatory and governmental filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Reconciles and approves/reviews general ledger and bank accounts as part of ongoing financial oversight.
  • Researches and resolves accounting errors and discrepancies promptly and timely, leveraging reconciliation systems and collaboration with other departments.
  • Affords assistance with budget preparations and financial analysis, preparing regular reports and statements for management.
  • Maintains cost control and monitors expenses, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
  • Manages direct reports to maximize productivity, efficiency, and optimization of accounting personnel, including hiring, directing job assignments, monitoring staff performance, coaching, counseling, training, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational mission, values, policies and work rules.
  • Applies appraisals of performance and provides recommendations for staff compensation, promotion, and corrective action, as appropriate.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems or issues.
  • Stays informed of developments in the accounting field and of changing governmental and legal requirements, staying current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Maintains and updates job knowledge by participating in related training, reading professional publications, maintaining a professional network, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Promotes and establishes strong, positive, and productive working relationships within the organization through commitment to the company’s purpose, mission, and core values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in credit union accounting, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of credit union accounting principles, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience with financial software and systems, particularly those used in credit unions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Access.
