Accounting Manager (Budget)

About the role

Manages activities of staff in an operating unit or functional program area(s).

Responsibilities

• Develops guidelines, procedures, policies, rules and regulations and monitors compliance with policies and procedures.
• Identifies needed areas of change and makes recommendations to improve operations.
• Directs others to implement corrective action, responsibility.
• Plans, assigns, and/or supervises work of others, including lower supervision levels.
• Establishes short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives; develops and/or approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; and directs evaluation activities.
• Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies.
• Oversees special investigations, internal audits, and research studies.
• Oversees the preparation of and evaluates budget request.
• Oversees the planning, development and operation of special projects or facilities.
• Provides technical guidance in the unit or functional program area.
• May contribute to the preparation, development, review and/or revision of ordinances.

Requirements

Essential Functions include managing activities of staff in an operating unit or functional program area(s); developing guidelines, procedures, policies, rules and regulations and monitoring compliance with policies and procedures; identifying needed areas of change and making recommendations to improve operations; directing others to implement corrective action, responsibility; planning, assigning, and/or supervising work of others, including lower supervision levels; establishing short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives; developing and/or approving schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; and directing evaluation activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, life science or graphic design fields plus four years professional-level experience in three or more of the following areas: program development/implementation; development of policies and/or operational procedures; developing graphics, interpretive designs or displays; OR animal care/management in a zoological institution.
• Two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory/management capacity with responsibility for performance management and disciplinary actions.

Skills

• Effective oral and written communication skills and MS Office or similar software skills.
• Experience preparing and/or delivering oral/written presentations a plus.
• Using the following software preferred: Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Quark Experss, Nikon View or Nikon LS-5000 Cool Scan software.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the operational unit or functional program and the principles and practices of public administration and management. Ability to manage unit/program activities. Ability to establish and obtain operating goals and objectives for unit. Ability to devise solutions to administrative problems and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to develop and evaluate administrative polices and procedures. Ability to disseminate information through the preparation concise reports. Ability to supervise a staff. Ability to administer budget. Ability to communicate effectively, at all levels, both orally and in writing. May be required to be certified, registered, or licensed in a specialty area.
