Position Summary Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the integrity of the accounting operations, systems, analysis, and financial statement preparation, as well as management of the accounting department staff. The Accounting Manager oversees general ledger activity, the month-end closing process, account reconciliations, call report preparation and review, monthly financial reporting, and annual audited financial statement preparation. This role is responsible for the establishment and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing direct reports and for staff development, time management, and resources while managing various deadlines. Key Responsibilities Act as the leader of the accounting team and foster a positive relationship across all departments. Develop a strategic plan for the Accounting Department. Train and mentor accounting staff to increase employee retention and provide professional development opportunities. Continually assess accounting department staffing to ensure talent is commensurate with Bank needs. Interact with a variety of Bank personnel in resolving accounting-related issues. Manage the integrity of daily accounting functions. Review and update accounting policies and procedures. Ensure inter-department compliance with Bank policies and procedures and maintain adequate financial controls. Enforce Bank-wide adherence to Accounts Payable, Fixed Asset, Corporate Credit Card, and related policies and procedures. Manage the month-end close process, including monthly accruals and tax estimates. Develop and maintain reconciliation processes to ensure balance sheet integrity. Establish daily and monthly reconciliation checklists and procedures. Ensure reconciliations are reviewed timely and supported by appropriate documentation. Oversee outstanding reconciliation items and ensure they are resolved within a reasonable period, not to exceed ninety days. Supervise the maintenance and processing of Fixed Assets and Prepaid Expenses. Supervise the maintenance and processing of Accounts Payable. Review and maintain investment securities transactions, including purchases, sales, payments, accruals, amortization/accretion, and unrealized gains and losses. Review investment activity monthly with the Treasurer for approval. Lead the assessment and implementation of new Accounting Standards Updates. Develop new capabilities and process improvements to create efficiencies and best practices. Oversee the preparation and review of the quarterly FDIC Call Report. Maintain deferred loan origination cost accounting processes. Oversee the preparation and review of collateral reports for the Federal Reserve Bank and Federal Home Loan Bank. Work with Lending and Credit departments to determine the adequacy of the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL). Lead the ACL Committee. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for significant risk and decision-making models. Work with internal auditors to provide requested information and implement recommendations as appropriate. Manage relationships with external auditors and coordinate annual audit planning. Ensure audit requests are fulfilled accurately and timely. Prepare tax provisions. Oversee and review the preparation of annual financial statements. Manage the Bank's tax position and liability in conjunction with external tax advisors. Manage the Bank's insurance program and facilitate renewals. Participate in the budgeting process, prepare department budgets, and identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings. Attend staff meetings, sales meetings, training sessions, and other meetings as requested. Establish industry best-practice controls related to FDICIA requirements appropriate for the Bank's size and complexity. Facilitate implementation of a FDICIA-compliant control environment throughout the Bank. Participate in community events and volunteer activities supporting StonehamBank's value of Service. Attend Board Meetings as required. Protect Bank data and systems by complying with the Employee Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. Assume Additional Duties And Responsibilities As Assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree In Accounting Or Equivalent Experience Required. Minimum of 12 years of progressive bank accounting or public accounting experience required. CPA designation preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP required. Knowledge of loan and deposit core systems preferred. Excellent Management, Communication, Interpersonal, Analytical, And Organizational Skills Required. Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office, Fedline Advantage, Microsoft Outlook, FHLB Direct, general ledger accounting systems, investment accounting systems, and related financial software. Experience with COCC, Oracle Financial Suites, and FISERV Prologue Investment Accounting System is a plus.
