About the Role

The Accounting Manager oversees the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including managing accounts payable, purchasing, general ledger, financial statements, and governmental and grant reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and management to departmental staff, including performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
  • Makes recommendations regarding hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of staff.
  • Develops and manages action plans to support organizational goals and leads change initiatives.
  • Empowers staff through effective communication, delegation, and talent development.
  • Assists with the development and monitoring of the departmental budget to ensure expenses do not exceed allocations.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance, workflow adherence, and policy/procedure compliance for assigned departments.
  • Oversees training and development of department employees, including remediation as needed.
  • Recommends workflow, policy, and procedure changes based on performance metrics and feedback.
  • Manages daily activities of the Accounting Department, including timelines for financial reporting.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and the monthly close process.
  • Develops and maintains accounting processes and procedures for general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, and grant accounting.
  • Monitors internal controls related to cash, accounts payable, inventory, fixed assets, and other financial processes.
  • Implements software features, reporting tools, and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Oversees analyses, reporting activities, compliance requirements, and special projects.
  • Assigns, reviews, and approves governmental, grant, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates the annual financial audit and serves as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Assists with the development, coordination, and monitoring of the annual budget.
  • Provides financial analysis, reports, and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
  • Coordinates special projects related to accounting operations, financial reporting, and process improvements.
  • Oversees purchasing, inventory, and supply management activities to ensure availability of necessary materials and equipment.
  • Monitors inventory levels, usage trends, and purchasing activity to ensure compliance with policies and budgetary requirements.
  • Consults with department leadership on the quality, effectiveness, and utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees procurement activities and vendor relationships, analyzing quotations, pricing, and proposals to determine best value.
  • Participates in the review and evaluation of new products, services, and equipment.
  • Oversees vendor performance and resolves issues related to defective products, service concerns, or delivery failures.
  • Recommends process improvements to strengthen purchasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversees fixed assets, equipment contracts, and service agreements, including maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Maintains records related to fixed assets, equipment inventories, and service contracts.
  • Provides recommendations regarding equipment replacement, asset utilization, and contract renewals.
  • Adheres to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, ensuring regular attendance as an essential function of the role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Effective June 1, 2026, candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree with a recognized major and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or
    • A combination of relevant experience and completion of a high school diploma (minimum GPA of 2.5) or GED (minimum overall score of 162.5), plus healthcare-related knowledge acquired through a trade school, para-professional, or certificate program.
    • If an individual has completed a higher-level degree with a stronger GPA, they may provide proof of that GPA in lieu of the required diploma or degree.
  • Minimum of four years of leadership experience or five years of progressively greater responsibility demonstrating leadership skills.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in accounting, finance, purchasing, or other business office-related functions.
  • Minimum credit score of 650.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word for creating complex documents, including tables, charts, and graphs.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis, including formulas, functions, and lookup tables.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including embedded objects and transitions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for resolving conflicts, compiling reports, and conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.

Pay

Salary range: $91,592.90 – $146,548.64.
