About the role
The Accounting Manager oversees all aspects of the City of Dunedin's accounting division, ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards and principles. Reporting to the Finance Director, this role manages and directs employees, performs critical research, and implements strategies that align with the City's Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities
- Manages the Accounting Division, adhering to accepted governmental accounting standards and principles.
- Directs and coordinates activities of subordinate accounting staff, including instruction, assignment, review, and planning of work.
- Oversees key processes such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, investments, lease and capital assets, borrower debt, and financial records in the ERP software environment.
- Ensures accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, including monthly and year-end closing activities, and prepares the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Develops and implements objectives and strategies for the Accounting Division in alignment with the City's Strategic Plan.
- Assists auditors with the annual audit and evaluates banking and audit/accounting service contracts.
- Manages the filing of federal, state, and local returns and reports, including sales tax and abandoned property filings.
- Provides support to the Director of Finance in his/her absence, assisting with special projects and general office work.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, supplemented by five to seven years of experience in an accounting position.
- Master's degree in accounting is acceptable if the undergraduate degree is in an unrelated field.
- A minimum of two years of government accounting experience.
- At least two years of supervisory experience.
- A strong knowledge of GASB pronouncements and GAAP.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet applications, and ERP financial applications (preferably Tyler/Munis software experience).
- Current certification as a CPA or CGFO is preferred.
- A valid Florida driver's license.

Pay
$87,942.00 - $109,928.00 annually (DOQ)
