Primary Tasks
- Develop departmental procedures and consider the need for new or changed controls.
- Analyze the effect of transactions and evaluate alternative means of handling transactions.
- Review accuracy of monthly financial reports prior to reporting to management.
- Recommend improvements, adaptations or revisions in the accounting system and procedures.
- Apply accounting principles to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports and interpret the meaning of accounting records, reports and statements.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of all interdepartmental accounts, transfers and balance sheet items.
- Update reports monthly and ensure any discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
- Accumulate and track all costs associated with construction in progress, grants or projects that fall under their direction.
- Review reports for management, federal government, and audit.
- Lead and positively encourage a team of accounting associates.
- Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or 4 years related experience.
- Have knowledge of GAAP, federal regulations, and organization's procedures as they relate to financial statements.
- Six (6) years of accounting experience.
- Two (2) years of experience supervising direct reports.
