About the role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead our accounting operations and support the financial health of a growing affordable housing portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and internal controls, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing regulations and funding structures.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage financial reporting for multiple properties, entities, and funding sources (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, and other subsidies)
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, lender agreements, and investor reporting standards
- Lead annual audits and coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers
- Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Partner with asset management and development teams to analyze project performance
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Experience in affordable housing, real estate, or property management accounting strongly preferred
- Familiarity with LIHTC, HUD programs, and multi-entity accounting structures
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency in accounting software
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Must be able to pass a 7-year background check and pre-employment drug testing
