About the role
Tlingit Haida Tribal Business Corporation (THTBC) is dedicated to creating meaningful economic opportunity and sustainable growth for the Tlingit & Haida Tribes of Alaska. This role supports essential services to federal clients, contributing to the Tribe's programs, services, and overall growth.
Responsibilities
- Posts actions to journals, identifies subsidiary accounts, and prepares adjusting entries.
- Reviews computer printouts and manually maintained journals for accuracy and prepares correcting documents.
- Manages journals, subsidiary ledgers, and account records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Verifies invoices, statements, and supporting documents for accuracy, funding, and compliance.
- Researches and resolves incomplete, inaccurate, or questionable transactions.
- Processes transactions through automated financial systems using proper accounting codes.
- Reconciles reports and records, investigates variances, and makes corrections as needed.
- Prepares journal vouchers, accruals, and adjustment entries.
- Supports month-end and year-end close activities, reconciliations, and audits.
- Maintains organized and audit-ready accounting records.
- Supports process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience providing in-depth knowledge of established accounting methods and practices, particularly in a structured, automated financial environment.
- Specialized work in government contracting preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with work order systems such as Maximo preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to resolve complex discrepancies and errors with minimal guidance.
Qualifications
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 Public Trust background check, if required for the position.
- Must be able to maintain the ability to access the government worksite.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or desk.
- Frequent use of hands for typing, data entry, and handling paperwork.
- Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
Skills
- Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping system.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with work order systems such as Maximo.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
