Accountant II Position Summary
The Accountant II is responsible for overseeing key areas of the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and supporting the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies while also assisting with financial analysis, audits, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and reconcile complex balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany accounts.
- Prepare and review financial statement fluctuations and variance analyses.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Review and assist in improving accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation.
- Aid with budgeting and forecasting processes as needed.
- Provide guidance and review work prepared by entry-level or staff accountants.
- Aid with sales tax, use tax, and other regulatory filings as required.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual variances in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas.
- Experience improving processes and strengthening internal controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions such as pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.).
- Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Public accounting and/or manufacturing industry experience preferred.
- CPA license or CPA track strongly preferred.
- Experience with audits, financial reporting, and month-end close required.
- ERP system experience required (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Sage, or similar).
