About the role

The Position Under general supervision, an Accounting Clerk II, performs financial clerical, bookkeeping and statistical reporting tasks, as well as processes financial records/transactions of moderate complexity; applies arithmetic skills and understanding of record keeping systems and related transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable
  • Process accounts receivable
  • Post financial transactions to manual and/or automated accounting systems
  • Process payroll and post/input timecards into computer system
  • Count and balances cash transactions
  • Prepare vendor claims by classifying expenditures
  • Balance and reconcile accounts records

Requirements

Education And/Or Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk I or equivalent. OR Six (6) months full time work experience as an Accounting Clerk I or equivalent AND 6 semester units or 9 quarter units in principles of accounting courses from an accredited college.

Other Requirements: Applicants are required to demonstrate basic spreadsheet skills through the passing of a County approved test that will be administered by Human Resources following application review.

Document Submittal Requirements

All candidates qualifying for the position under the education requirement of 6 semester units or 9 quarter units in principles of accounting courses from an accredited college must submit a copy of their official/unofficial transcripts (verifying the courses and units completed) or degree (verifying institution, student, date, degree and area of specialization conferred) by the application review deadline. Candidates who fail to submit their transcripts by the application review deadline will be disqualified from the recruitment.

Veteran's Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE. Applicants who have a service-connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service-connected reasons. Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
