Position Summary

Under general direction, plans, organizes, directs, reviews and supervises the work of a variety of staff involved in the reception, research, preparation, issuance, and maintenance of legal documents and law enforcement records; performs related work as required.

About the Role

This position requires the ability to plan and coordinate the work in the area assigned, understand, interpret, explain, and apply specific statues, codes, laws, regulations, and procedures, develop, evaluate, research and implement operational procedures related to the work of the assigned area, analyze problems and complaints and identify and implement solutions, locate, identify and correct technical inaccuracies, use independent initiative and discretion in organizing work and supervising the work of others, select and train employees, evaluate and assess employee performance, establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with judges, attorneys, litigants, other employees, and the general public, communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates, assemble materials and prepare reports.

  • Develop, evaluate, research and implement operational procedures related to the work of the assigned area; analyze problems and complaints and identify and implement solutions.
  • Select and train employees.
  • Evaluate and assess employee performance.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with judges, attorneys, litigants, other employees, and the general public.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Assemble materials and prepare reports.

Requirements

  • Knowledge Of Court related government or department codes, ordinances, laws, regulations, procedures and policy decisions necessary to accomplish objectives of the assigned division; the operations, procedures, timetables and jurisdictions of the court or department of assignment.
  • Effective supervision and personnel management; techniques and methods of training employees in work procedures.
  • The purpose and processing procedures of a variety of legal documents, forms, and records; the operations, procedures and jurisdictions of the court and the area of assignment; the record and computer systems of the Court and the area of assignment; basic arithmetic, English grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and composition; the technical resource materials and information sources applicable to the area of assignment; court related statutes, laws, ordinances and procedures and their applicability to the area of assignment; the organization, functions, and procedures of the California court.

Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and work experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed herein. Normally, three years of work experience in a law office, law enforcement office or court environment processing legal documents with at least one year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity, would provide this opportunity. Additionally, some course work in the areas of management and supervision including office practices and procedures, legal secretarial, paralegal studies, or other legal related courses.

Process to Apply

  • The selection process will consist of an application and supplemental questionnaire appraisal. Each application and supplemental questionnaire will be thoroughly evaluated for satisfaction of minimum qualifications and relevance of educational course work, training, experience, knowledge and abilities which relate to this position. Additionally, an oral or written examination may be required.

  • Retirement Plan: Tax deferred contributory system under the County Retirement Act of 1937. This is a defined benefit plan fully integrated with Social Security. Employee may elect to make additional contributions into a separate 457 Deferred Compensation Account up to the IRS annual maximum.
