Accounting Assistant I
About the role
The Accounting Assistant I supports the Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest zinc mines, operated under an innovative agreement between Teck and NANA, a Regional Alaska Native corporation. This position is based in the Anchorage office from Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Backup to accounts payable to assist with invoice processing, ensuring proper approvals and documentation prior to payment, coding, data entry, and researching discrepancies.
- Prioritize invoices according to cash discount potential and payment terms.
- Update vendor mailing address and tax information in GenCID as required.
- Reconcile vendor statements and research and correct discrepancies.
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practice.
- Manage the inventory and purchasing of office supplies and maintain the copier room.
- Receive all general inquiry phone calls in an appropriate business-like manner and redirect calls if required.
- Process all incoming and outgoing mail and packages in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate protocols for guests and others at both the front office door and in the reception area.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one (1) year of general office, clerical accounting experience.
- Post-secondary education from an accredited college can substitute for the experience requirement if it includes at least 3 semesters or equivalent hours in accounting.
- Experience showing good communication, interpersonal, motivational, and organizational skills.
- Computer-related experience to include basic knowledge of using Microsoft (MS) Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
- Proficient writing skills; highly organized and able to work with minimal guidance.
- Task-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of multi-tasking, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and working as a team-player.
- A strong attention to detail and follow-through skills.
- The ability to be at work consistently, predictably, and independently.
- The ability to adhere to confidentiality standards.
- Sufficient language skills to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos, write simple correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
