ACCOUNTING ADMINISTRATOR II
About the role
The Accounting Administrator II serves as the Assistant Chief of the Disbursement Services and is responsible for providing control and direction for accounting activities within the General Disbursements Unit and the Community Services and Disbursements Unit. The position supervises the units responsible for payments to regional centers, Intermediate Care Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled (ICF-DD), Developmental Centers, and the Department's Headquarters vendors, including monitoring and maintaining the disbursement collection process.
Working conditions
Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment. This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position. Open-spaced partitioned office and the use of a computer on the FI$Cal Accounting System and various software applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Word). During peak times including year-end processing, requests for leave will be limited and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead professional accounting staff
- Assign and prioritize work, monitor performance, coach and develop employees, address performance issues, and ensure timely and accurate completion of work
- Resolve complex accounting or fiscal issues using accounting systems such as FI$Cal or other enterprise financial systems
- Collaborate with management, vendors, auditors, and control agencies
- Analyze complex accounting and business issues
- Perform effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment
Qualifications
- Current state employment in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility
- Must meet Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification
- Must be a resident of the State of California at time of appointment
- Must have lawful authorization to work in the United States (Department does not sponsor employment visas)
- Must pass pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearances

Pay: $7,872.00 - $9,781.00 per month (new to State candidates hired at minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable). Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.
Schedule: Permanent, full-time position. Hybrid work schedule (in-office/telework).
