Accountant – Sumter, SC

Nature of Work

This is responsible administrative, supervisory and professional level accounting work involving the creation, maintenance, and review of all financial records for the Sumter Housing Authority. Activities associated with the position include the preparation and maintenance of individual ledgers for each program, management of accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, assisting with rental assistance payments and the preparation of the annual budget and overseeing requisitions for the Public Housing program and Housing Choice Voucher housing program administered by the Housing Authority. Additional responsibilities include assisting with investments, preparation and submission of documentation for the performance funding system, and preparing and submitting quarterly and annual financial reports. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining Capital Fund data and LOCCS payments for contractors, assisting with Board meetings and assisting auditors and the fee accountant as necessary.

Necessary Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a B.A. (B.S.) Degree in Finance, Accounting or closely related field.
• Thorough knowledge of Public Housing and other federally assisted housing programs.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills.
• Dedicated attention to detail.
• Thorough experience performing advanced level accounting transactions (HUD accounting preferred).
• Some supervisory experience.
