Accountant I-IV
About the role
GSEC is hiring an Accountant. This one position could be filled at an Accountant I, II, III, or IV level based on the applicant's education, experience, and qualifications. This position supports power plant accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and capital project tracking. The Accountant works closely with plant operations and third-party partners to ensure accurate financial records, budget compliance, and month-end accounting activities.
Responsibilities
- Cook and communicate plant accounting information with the plant accounting team including third-party operator personnel and plant AP clerk.
- Build and maintain the relationship between GSEC and third-party plant operator.
- Collaborate with third-party plant operator liaison to prepare monthly journal entries to properly and timely record plant activity in GSEC general ledger.
- Review plant payables by ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained for expenditures, and that all bills are properly entered and ready to process in a timely manner. Facilitate communication between GSEC budget analyst and third-party plant operator and assist in preparation of plant budgets.
- Assist with monitoring budget to actual expense amounts, ensuring line items do not exceed their budget.
- Review and reconcile the spare parts inventory subledger to the general ledger and make necessary adjustments. Monitor plant capital projects and assist in fixed asset accounting, as directed.
- Aid in the preparation of the annual capital budget.
- Perform month/year end accounting duties as assigned, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Aid the Accounting Team with gathering property tax information and processing statements.
- Aid in the preparation of annual audits, annual reports, and cost reports for regulatory entities.
Qualifications
- Accountant I: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. 0-2 years of accounting experience required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) practices and processes. Knowledge of Excel, Power Query, and Power BI preferred. Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.
- Accountant II: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. 2-4 years of accounting experience required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) practices and processes. Knowledge of Excel, Power Query, and Power BI preferred. Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.
- Accountant III: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. Master’s degree in accounting preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or (Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred. 4-6 years of accounting experience required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) practices and processes. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Power Query, and Power BI preferred. Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.
- Accountant IV: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. Master’s degree in accounting preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or (Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred. 7+ years of accounting experience required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) practices and processes. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Power Query, and Power BI preferred. Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.
