More About The Role This position will perform general accounting work. A high degree of customer service skills is required for this position. Position Summary Perform general and technical accounting work for an assigned area or department. This position, under direct supervision, is the entry level classification in the Accountant series and is responsible for preparing grant applications, financial reports and budget documents; and performing division accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions ensuring compliance with local ordinances and state statutes. Essential Functions Analyze and monitor compliance with financial, reporting, and legal requirements Prepare, review, reconcile and submit reports and/or statements to internal departments, financial institutions, and external agencies Organize, prepare, and review budget documentation; determine revenue and expenditure coding; review expenditure and reconcile budget proceeds Prepare invoices for payment authorization; assigns expenditures to proper cost center; verifies posting of expenditures and maintains accounts payable ledger and records Enter and maintain automated and manual accounting records; perform data entry for accounting operations and verifies accuracy Prepare a variety of financial and accounting records and reports including revenue and expenditure reports, executive summaries, and aging reports Review and audit source documents and posts transactions; prepares reports and reconciles ledgers Coordinate with department to assess needs and requirements for fiscal monitoring and reporting Review data collected and monitors budgets to provide accurate and timely financial information to internal departments and outside reporting agencies Provide ongoing technical assistance to departments on fiscal policies and procedures and budget guidelines Experience Minimum Qualifications Education No experience required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes Licenses and Certifications May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License Preferred Qualifications Experience with accounting work or financial analysis Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Knowledge of Budgetary principles Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations Governmental accounting procedures Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar Principles and processes for providing customer service Skills Proficiency in financial analysis Interpretation of financial documents Qualitative and quantitative analysis Working with balance sheets and financial statements, journal entries, knowledge of account classifications, understand chart of accounts Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting Talking to others to convey information effectively Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems Using mathematics to solve problems Abilities Building Partnerships: Identifying opportunities and taking action to build strategic relationships between one’s area and other areas, teams, departments, units or organizations to help achieve business goals Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the information provided Decision Making: Identifying and understanding issues, problems and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequence Information Monitoring: Setting up ongoing procedures to collect and review information needed to manage an organization or ongoing activities within it Technical/professional Knowledge and Skills: Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise Work Standards: Setting high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self-imposing standards of excellence Computer Skills Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite Intermediate in Microsoft Excel Work Environment Works in an office setting with moderate noise Selection This classification has been identified as having a role in the development of ADA compliant technologies and for which the incumbent agrees to follow County policies to the best of their abilities in order to meet these obligations.
