About the role
First Tactical is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the organization’s financial function.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, examine, and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (as applicable).
- Contribute to the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Aid in budgeting and forecasting, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
- Collaborate with department heads to track expenses and optimize resource allocation.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and documentation.
- Responsible for reconciling certain general ledgers, bank statements, and balance sheet accounts.
- Analyze financial data and manage employee and business expenses.
- Aid in the preparation of financial statements for management and tax reporting.
- Support the preparation of business tax returns and ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required;
- 3+ years of accounting experience preferred;
- Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong Excel skills;
- Knowledge of accounting ERP systems (ABS preferred);
- Able to adapt to shifting priorities, embrace new or evolving responsibilities, balance multiple demands from supervisors and peers;
- Maintains a calm, positive demeanor under pressure.
Qualifications
- Physical Demands/Work Conditions:
- Frequent standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle and feel, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Requires repetitive hand movements and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds (e.g. office supplies).
Skills
- Knowledge of accounting standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting ERP systems (ABS preferred).
- Ability to analyze financial data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
