Accountant I

At First Mid, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of discretionary short-term incentives (i.e., bonus, incentives, and/or commission).

Responsibilities

• Perform various accounting functions as assigned in accordance with internal controls, procedures, and policies of the accounting department.
• Perform procedures related to the month-end closing process, including variance analysis and preparing and recording recurring journal entries.
• Prepare general ledger account reconciliations as assigned.
• Prepare various reports and analyses as assigned.
• Review data in the general ledger and various sub-systems to ensure accuracy and reasonableness of recorded financial transactions; research questions regarding general ledger information from various personnel.
• Act as backup for various accounting functions as assigned.
• Complete required training associated with job functions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Some accounting coursework required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Some accounting experience preferred.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of accounting.
• High level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate accounting issues to employees, management, and outside vendors.
• Good analytical skills to analyze financial and procedural data.
• Adequate knowledge of internal policies, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations governing accounting functions to ensure performance within the proper control environment.
