About the Role
The Accountant I performs varied and complex technical accounting work, preparing analytical, narrative, statistical, and accounting reports. This is a skilled and experienced level of accounting position, working independently without technical supervision.
Responsibilities
- Keeps fiscal records with varied accounting functions.
- Examines, verifies, approves, and screens fiscal documents such as requisitions, purchase orders, receiving records, and invoice record transactions in subsidiary and general ledgers.
- Prepares trial balances, reconciliations, and worksheets.
- May supervise a clerical staff making ledger entries, reconciliations, trial balances, maintaining payroll records, and performing other fiscal record-keeping work.
- Assigns and reviews clerical work.
- Trains new employees and evaluates performance, making recommendations on personnel matters.
- Prepares a variety of detailed factual and analytical accounting, statistical, and narrative reports for the department.
- Prepares daily cash summary of cash receipts; classifies receipts according to funds; collects, disburses, and maintains records for claims and miscellaneous revenues and accounts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
- One (1) to two years of full-time professional accounting experience.
