Job Summary

Monitor and perform all phases of grant/special revenue accounting according to federal, state and district guidelines. Review special revenue accounting transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, Texas Education Agency guidelines, and applicable policies and laws. Reconcile and perform analysis for assigned programs weekly, monthly, annually, and at the end of the fiscal year and funding period; determine and record necessary accruals and other adjustments in the proper period; and obtain necessary supporting documentation for any proposed adjustments. Complete various daily functions for special revenue funds as needed (i.e. journal entries, budget transfers, reimbursement requests, deposits, etc.). Generate various financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to provide status of assigned funds to management and/or remain compliant with federal, state or local agency guidelines. Assist internal and external auditors during annual district financial audit and grantor agency audits. Keep abreast of technical, legislative and professional trends and developments affecting assigned programs and disseminate information to appropriate district personnel. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of directly related experience in accounting financial analysis, and budgeting in a fund environment and 1 years of grants accounting experience (preferred).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, procedures, and their application to a variety of accounting audits, transactions, and problems.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer skills, specifically with MS Windows, MS Office Professional, and financial systems.
  • Knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of financial data and the ability to analyze, interpret, and prepare a variety of financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to accounting.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information/data.
