About the role
This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Finance, Indianapolis, IN. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Responsibilities
- Performing general ledger operations, including analyzing transactions for effects on CBP's assets, liabilities, net position and operations.
- Providing professional accounting service by preparing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting accounting data and in reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Providing professional accounting advice by reducing recurring accounting data errors and recommending financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Basic Education Requirement: 1. Degree in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that includes or is supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. OR 2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
- Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Formulating a variety of financial management reports based on evaluation and analysis of accounting records and systems. Assisting management in applying financial data and recommending alternatives to resolve difficult problems. Reconciling financial data and discrepancies by collecting and documenting transactional or account information.
Pay
This position starts at a salary of $90,341.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $117,446.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $117,446 (GS-12 Step 10).
