About the role

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a full-time Accountant to oversee various accounting functions including Cash, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable - Market Operations, Accounts Receivable - Interconnection Projects, and more. This position requires a strong background in general ledger reconciliations, cash management, and accounts payable/accounts receivable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare schedules for the Monthly Financial Report.
  • Cross-train other Accounting staff and accept cross-training from others.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Aid in the development of administrative policies and procedures.
  • Provide suggestions for process enhancements and improvements to internal control structures.
  • Participate in coordination of internal and external audits.
  • Maintain confidentiality of designated information.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, copying, and faxing.
  • Analyze and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Process Market Participant accounts receivables and payables.
  • Calculate and process planning studies invoices.
  • Oversee billing, invoicing, and reconciliation procedures for Interconnection Studies.
  • Coordinate with the Planning Department to track Interconnection Projects.
  • Generate weekly payment batches and address vendor questions.
  • Record prepayments and amortize expenses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or related field, with a concentration in accounting, required.
  • Five years of experience in accounting in a corporate setting, focusing on general ledger reconciliations, cash, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail, and internet programs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to calculate basic figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, etc.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competency in Oracle Financials is beneficial, but not required.
