Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Aid in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Generate financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
- Track and allocate project costs including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Monitor job cost budgets and analyze cost variances.
- Support project managers with financial tracking and reporting for active projects.
- Review project-related expenses to ensure accurate coding and classification.
- Aid in preparing annual budgets and project financial forecasts.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, cost overruns, and opportunities for cost control.
- Support financial planning for new and ongoing construction projects.
- Maintain proper documentation for financial transactions and job costs.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and contract requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support implementation and optimization of construction accounting software or ERP systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Experience: 35+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
- Job Cost Accounting: Experience with job cost accounting and construction billing methods (e.g., progress billing, retainage) preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excel Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, financial analysis, formulas).
- Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with construction accounting systems is a plus.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, high attention to detail and accuracy, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, strong communication skills.
- Preferred Qualifications: CPA or CPA candidate preferred, experience with construction management or accounting software, knowledge of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction contract terms.
